1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>In Disk Utility on your MacBook, you can erase your storage Remember<\/strong> erasing a storage device deletes everything on it. If you have any files you want to save, make sure to copy them to another storage device.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Open the Disk Utility app\u00a0<\/span>\"\"\u00a0on your MacBook using one of the following methods, depending on the type of hard disk or volume needing to be erased.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you want to erase your startup disk:<\/span><\/em>\u00a0Start up your computer in macOS Recovery, then choose Disk Utility in the Recovery app. To learn how to start up your computer in macOS Recovery.<\/span><\/p>\n

Note:\u00a0<\/span><\/em>If you want to get your Mac ready to, sell or trade-in, and your computer is a Mac with Apple silicon or an Intel-based Mac with an Apple T2 Security Chip, use erase assistant.<\/span><\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Choose View\u00a0> Show All Devices.<\/span><\/p>\n

4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>In the sidebar, select the storage device you want to erase, then click the Erase button\u00a0.<\/span><\/p>\n

5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Click the Scheme pop-up menu, then choose GUID Partition Map.<\/span><\/p>\n

If the Scheme pop-up menu isn\u2019t available, make sure you select the storage device you want to erase \u2014 it\u2019s at the top of the hierarchy.<\/span><\/p>\n

6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Click the Format pop-up menu, then\u00a0choose a file system format.<\/span><\/p>\n

7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Enter a name.<\/span><\/p>\n

8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>If available, click Security Options, use the slider to choose how many times to write over the erased data, then click OK.<\/span><\/p>\n

Secure erase options are available only for some types of storage devices. If the Security Options button is not available, Disk Utility cannot perform a secure erase on the storage device.<\/span><\/p>\n

9.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Click Erase, then click Done.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Data Security<\/p>\n

Your hard drive contains personal data, including files, passwords, and sensitive information. Even if you delete files or format the drive, data can still be recovered.
