Not everyone can afford to purchase a brand new Apple product so selling a used Apple product in good condition is always an option. If you have been considering selling your Mac either to buy a new one or just because you find you don’t use it anymore, following is useful information to consider about selling your Mac.

Selling Your Mac

Should I sell my Mac?

If you’re reading this, it’s likely you have asked yourself if you should sell your Mac. If you find that you are no longer using your Mac then the answer is YES. You should sell your Mac when you find that you are no longer using it. Macs are popular computers that hold their value pretty well, but it’s a good idea to sell your Mac as soon as you realize that you no longer need it. The reason why you should sell your Mac sooner rather than later is that you will be able to get more money for a newer Mac than for one that is older.

The main benefit is of selling your Mac is obvious. You can make money from selling it. Who doesn’t need more money? You can get your Mac out of your home and into someone else’s who will benefit from using it. With the money you make from selling your Mac, you can buy a newer version or you can spend it on something else you need or want.

What should I do before selling my Mac?

Before you take the step to sell your Mac, you want to make sure you get all of your personal information off of it. This can be done by returning your computer to factory settings. One reason you would want to do this is for your protection. You don’t want the new owner to have access to your personal information such as passwords, your iTunes account, or even your user names.

It’s easy to use an app like Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your internal hard drive so you can keep all of your files. If you restart your Mac in Recovery Mode by holding down the Command and R key when you restart the computer, you can erase the hard drive. Use Disc Utility to do this. Then, reinstall OS X for the seller and next user.

Another thing you want to make sure you do is to de-authorise your accounts like Photoshop or iTunes. This will ensure that a new person is not able to get access to your account and run up charges you are not aware of. You should also sign out of iCloud.

How can I get the most for my Mac?

Obviously you can expect to get more money for a Mac before a new edition comes out than you would after. When a newer Mac comes on the market, older Macs lose some of their value because everyone wants the new one. If you know a new Mac is about to come on the market and you are not sure about whether you want to keep yours or sell it, make your decision as soon as possible.

Usually when there is a new Mac about to come out, there will all kinds of press. You can search Google to find out information about new Apple product launches and make sure to sell your Mac before the newest Mac from Apple comes out.

It almost goes without saying that in order to make the most money when selling you Mac it should be in good condition. Make sure your Mac is in good repair. If you know that you want to sell your computer but the screen has a crack, it may be worth your while to get the screen replaced. You may find that replacing the screen makes the value of your computer go up so much that the cost of replacing the screen doesn’t even matter.

Where should I sell my Mac?

Ebay

There are many different options when it comes to selling your Mac. One option is to list your Mac on an auction site like Ebay. The great thing about selling on Ebay is you can control how much you ask for your Mac and you don’t have to sell it if you are not offered the amount you want. However, you are not guaranteed to get what you are asking. Ebay allows you to ask whatever you want for your items, but they are only worth what someone will pay.

The downside of selling on Ebay is that you have to have a Paypal account, and you have to pay Ebay if you sell your item. You also have to wait around for someone to bid or decide to buy your item- which is not ideal if you need money right away. Then there is the hassle of attracting buyers without a positive feedback score. Without positive feedback you might not be able to sell your Mac as some Ebay shoppers will only buy products from a user with positive feedback. This makes it hard if you’ve never sold anything on Ebay at all.

Off Hands

Another option to sell your Mac is word of mouth. You might get lucky and find someone who is looking to take your Mac off your hands, or you might not know anyone who is looking for a computer. You are pretty limited to the people you know with this option.

Certified Site

The ideal way to sell your Mac is to send it in to a certified site that will pay you for your computer. You will get money fast and without hassle when you send in your Mac. Don’t have to worry about whether your computer sells, you just get your money. You can simply wipe your Mac clean of your information and send it in. When they receive your computer and assess the value, making sure it works as it should, they will send you your money.

Apple products are always hot.
